SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government is examining on merit a proposal to extend the power amnesty scheme for domestic consumers beyond March 31, 2026, the Power Development Department (PDD) has said.
The scheme currently provides a 100 per cent waiver of interest and surcharge on outstanding electricity bills of domestic consumers up to March 31, 2026.
The issue was raised by Hiranagar MLA Vijay Kumar, who sought to know whether the scheme would be extended by at least one year, covering the 2026-27 financial year up to March 31, 2027.
In its reply, the PDD said, “The matter of the Amnesty Scheme for power consumers is being examined by the department on merits.”
Kumar also asked whether the Government proposed extending the interest waiver to small and marginal farmers in the border constituency who have outstanding electricity bills relating to irrigation pump sets, as a one-time measure.
The department said the “amnesty on surcharge is under examination on merits”.
The reply was issued by the Power Development Department in response to Starred D. No. 1/6/300.
