SRINAGAR: PDP MLA Waheed Para on Monday questioned the National Conference-led government’s position on Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional issues, saying the party should explicitly mention demands including autonomy, Article 370, Article 35A and restoration of statehood.
Reacting to the resolution before the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Para said the National Conference has 50 MLAs and questioned why the party was reluctant to mention what he described as the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The resolution does not condemn the August 5, 2019 measures,” Para said, adding that amendments moved by eight ruling-party MLAs indicated, in his view, that the government was not sincere about its intentions.
His remarks came amid discussions in the Assembly over a resolution presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and proposed amendments seeking explicit reference to developments following August 5, 2019.
