SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the death of a patient at Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospital Rajouri, directing it to submit its report within two weeks.
According to Government Order No. 472-JK(HME) of 2026 dated June 12, issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, the probe has been constituted to ensure a fair, objective and transparent examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The committee will be headed by Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kalsotra, Principal Government Medical College Udhampur. Its members include Prof. (Dr.) Abdul Gani, Department of Orthopaedics, Government Medical College Jammu, and Dr. Narinder Bhutial, Medical Superintendent, Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital Jammu.
The panel has been tasked with examining all facts and circumstances leading to the incident, scrutinising allegations made by the deceased patient’s family, and reviewing treatment protocols followed by attending medical staff to assess compliance with clinical guidelines.
It will also determine whether any negligence, omission or deviation from standard medical practice occurred, fix responsibility for lapses in preparedness, intervention or service delivery, and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
The government has directed the committee to submit a detailed report along with supporting documentary evidence to the Administrative Department within two weeks of the order’s issuance.
Authorities have also instructed the Principal GMC Rajouri and all concerned officials to extend full cooperation and provide necessary records for the inquiry.
