SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered the promotion and regularisation of 53 faculty members of Government Medical Colleges in Anantnag, Jammu, Doda, Rajouri and Baramulla to higher posts, following recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee and the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission.
The Health and Medical Education Department issued five separate government orders on August 31, sanctioning the promotions and regularisations on a prospective basis across a wide range of medical disciplines.
Government Medical College, Anantnag, accounted for the highest number of promotions, with 22 faculty members elevated to the posts of Professor and Associate Professor.
Those promoted include Dr Syed Nawaz Ahmad in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr Fouzia Nazir in Community Medicine, Dr Mansoor Ahmad Dar in Psychiatry, Dr Mehak Mufti and Dr Shaugfta Aara in Physiology, Dr Anjum Shamim in Anaesthesiology, Dr Sami Manzoor in Pharmacology, Dr Aamir Yousuf in ENT, Dr Younis Kamal and Dr Nawaz Ahmad Bhat in Orthopaedics, Dr Mir Saiqa Shaifi in Radio Diagnosis, Dr Suhaeb Bhat in Pathology, Dr Showkat Hussain Tali and Dr Malik Shakir Hussain in Paediatrics, Dr Sanjeet Singh Risam in Dentistry, Dr Mashkoor Ahmad Beg in General Medicine, Dr Shanid Bashir Wani in Radiation Oncology, Dr Abiroo Jan in Microbiology, and faculty members in Anatomy and Biochemistry.
At Government Medical College, Jammu, 13 faculty members were promoted or regularised. The beneficiaries include Dr Vikrant Singh in Surgical Gastroenterology, Dr Ajay Gupta, Dr Updesh Kumar, Dr Neha Sharma and Dr Santosh Devi in Anaesthesiology, Dr Rahul Sharma and Dr Sandeep Kaur in Radiation Oncology, Dr Ashima Badyal in Biochemistry, Dr Kiran Bala in Community Medicine, Dr Monica Manhas and Dr Shazia in Physiology, and Dr Shahnaz Choudhary and Dr Parveen Akhtar in Anatomy.
Ten faculty members at Government Medical College, Doda, were promoted or regularised. They include Dr Najmus Saqib in Paediatrics, Dr Madhu Kapoor Chib in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr Garima Charak in Physiology, Dr Khalid Muzzafer and Dr Arpan Bijyal in Orthopaedics, Dr Babar Rashid Zargar in General Surgery, Dr Sumat-Ul-Khurshid in Pathology, Dr Rahil Muzaffar in ENT, Dr Rajat Rakesh Khajuria in Dentistry and Dr Mir Kaisar Ahmad in Biochemistry.
At Government Medical College, Rajouri, seven faculty members received promotions or regularisation to higher posts. They include Dr Shuja Akhtar Qadri in Community Medicine, Dr Suhail Banday in Anaesthesiology, Qazi Najeeb in Biochemistry, Dr Meenakshi Khajuria and Dr Rohni Sharma in Pathology, Dr Shivani Panhotra in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, and Dr Satish Sharma in Dentistry.
Meanwhile, Dr Mehmood Rashid, Associate Professor of General Surgery at Government Medical College, Baramulla, was promoted and regularised as Professor.
The promotions were made following recommendations received from the Departmental Promotion Committee and the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission through letters issued on August 19, 2026.
The government orders clarified that all promotions and regularisations would remain subject to the outcome of any writ petitions pending before courts of competent jurisdiction.
The orders were issued by the Health and Medical Education Department by order of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
