SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a committee to examine the discipline-wise cadre strength of lecturers in the School Education Department and recommend rationalisation of posts based on institutional needs and emerging academic requirements.
The committee has been constituted under Government Order No. 285-JK (Edu) of 2026, dated July 15, 2026, and has been directed to submit its report, along with specific recommendations, to the government within 30 days.
According to the order, the committee will be headed by the Director, School Education, Jammu. Other members include the Joint Director (Academics), Directorate of School Education Jammu; Personnel Officer, Directorate of School Education Kashmir, who will serve as Member Secretary; Deputy Director Planning, Directorate of School Education Kashmir; Chief Education Officer, Srinagar; Under Secretary to Government (T), School Education Department; and the Accounts Officer, Directorate of School Education Jammu.
The panel has been tasked with determining the exact number of sanctioned lecturer posts by comparing the figures reflected in the existing statutes and recruitment rules, the posts currently in position and the strength reflected in the department’s establishment budget.
It will also assess the actual discipline-wise requirement of lecturer posts based on institutional needs and examine the rationalisation of lecturer posts, with particular emphasis on subjects that have gained importance due to technological advancements and emerging academic requirements.
In addition, the committee will review the requirement of posts in language subjects, taking into account need-based academic requirements and regional relevance, and identify and earmark posts for vocational subjects in line with their functional necessity and institutional requirements.
