SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government will investigate all irregularities pointed out by the Legislative Assembly’s House Committee in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission works and take action based on the findings, Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana said on Wednesday.
Rana told the Assembly that complaints and allegations concerning JJM works would be properly examined, with authorities conducting inquiries wherever the House Committee had identified irregularities.
He said complaints received from residents would also be referred to the concerned Deputy Commissioners, who would be empowered to verify the ground position and conduct necessary inquiries.
The Minister said several JJM schemes had not received adequate funding over the past four years, affecting their progress. Despite the funding constraints, he said, more than 90 per cent of the schemes had been completed.
Rana said the Government would take a case-by-case approach to the concerns raised in the House Committee’s report. Where irregularities had been identified, the matters would be probed, while works without complaints or adverse findings would continue and legitimate payments to contractors would be released according to rules.
He said the objective was to maintain accountability while ensuring that implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission was not unnecessarily disrupted and that beneficiaries received the intended services.
Earlier, House Committee Chairman Justice Hasnain Masoodi made a statement on the committee’s report into alleged irregularities in the implementation of JJM in Jammu and Kashmir. The report was presented in the Assembly on September 21, 2026.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said several people had complained that the committee had not visited their areas and should therefore be given an opportunity to present their concerns.
Rather said genuine complaints would be examined and the actual position verified on the ground. He added that members dissatisfied with the Government’s response or action could seek further discussion on the report under the Rules of Procedure of the House.
