SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has 41 projects approved under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), of which 30 are completed or operational, creating 2 lakh tonnes per annum of food processing and preservation capacity and benefiting 53,203 farmers, according to data placed before the Rajya Sabha.
The figures were provided by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh in a written reply to Rajya Sabha Unstarred Question No. 730, answered on July 24, 2026. The question was raised by Smt Sadhna Singh, Dr Kavita Patidar, Shri Mayankkumar Nayak, Shri Ramrao Sakharam Wadkute, Shri Banshilal Gurjar, Shri Brij Lal, Dr Kalpana Saini, Shri Chunnilal Garasiya, Shri Subhash Barala, Shri S. Selvaganabathy, Smt Maya Naroliya, Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee, Shri Ujjwal Deorao Nikam, Shri Ryaga Krishnaiah, Shri Lahar Singh Siroya and Shri Mithlesh Kumar.
The state-wise data shows that Jammu and Kashmir accounts for 41 of the 1,735 PMKSY projects approved across India. While 30 projects in JK are completed or operational, the national figure stands at 1,256. The 2 lakh tonnes per annum processing and preservation capacity created in JK is part of the total national capacity of 294.21 lakh tonnes per annum.
The data also shows that 53,203 farmers in Jammu and Kashmir have benefited from the scheme, compared with around 37.76 lakh farmers nationally.
Ladakh, meanwhile, has no approved or completed/operational PMKSY projects, with the official table recording zero processing and preservation capacity and zero farmers benefiting under the scheme as of June 30, 2026.
Across the country, 1,735 projects had been approved under various PMKSY component schemes by June 30, 2026, of which 1,256 had been completed. These projects have generated 9.16 lakh employment opportunities, while the operational projects have created an annual processing and preservation capacity of 294.21 lakh tonnes.
The Ministry said PMKSY provides grants-in-aid or subsidies for developing modern food processing and preservation infrastructure, with the objective of reducing post-harvest losses and increasing value addition to agricultural produce.
According to the reply, the creation of such infrastructure increases demand for farm produce, helping farmers secure better price realisation and improve their incomes. The scheme is demand-driven, with applications invited from eligible applicants, including Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), through Expressions of Interest.
The government also provides enhanced financial assistance to FPOs under PMKSY, along with relaxed eligibility requirements, including lower equity contribution, reduced minimum bank loan requirements and lower net-worth requirements compared with general-category applicants.
The Ministry said the 1,256 operational projects under PMKSY were benefiting about 37.76 lakh farmers nationwide and contributing to the expansion of food processing capacity, value addition, food exports and overall growth of the sector.
