The government said sports infrastructure and training facilities are primarily the responsibility of state and Union Territory administrations, while the Centre supplements their efforts through various schemes.

The SAI centre in Jammu is among the 181 SAI centres listed across the country for 2026-27. The water sports extension centre at Nehru Park, Dal Lake, Srinagar, is listed under Rajasthan in the annexure, indicating that the facility is an extension centre rather than a separate J&K SAI centre.

Nationally, 1,066 Khelo India Centres have been notified, of which 1,020 are operational across 759 of 780 districts. The government has also notified 35 Khelo India State Centres of Excellence and accredited 364 academies for training Khelo India athletes.

The government said adequate sports equipment is available at all SAI centres and additional equipment is procured according to requirements. It also said there is no state/UT-wise shortage of residential facilities at SAI centres.
