SRINAGAR: A Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter aircraft crashed during a training flight in the northwestern province of Yalova on Wednesday, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported.
The pilot survived after ejecting safely from the aircraft, according to Turkey’s Defence Ministry.
In a statement shared on social media, the ministry said the F-16 was taking part in a routine training mission when it crashed. The pilot managed to eject from the aircraft before the crash.
The ministry said the cause of the incident would be established after a detailed investigation.
Live footage aired by Turkish news channel NTV showed a fireball followed by thick black smoke rising from the crash site, with the plume visible from several locations across Yalova province.
