SRINAGAR: The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh has revised the procedure governing the constitution and sittings of Special Benches, directing that such benches, when constituted in addition to the regular roster benches, shall ordinarily convene during the second half of Friday on their first date of sitting.
The directions have been issued through Order No. 1102 of 2026/RG, dated July 16, 2026, by the Office of the Registrar General. The order partially modifies the existing practice relating to the constitution of Special Benches.
According to the order, after the initial sitting on a Friday afternoon, the scheduling of subsequent sittings of a Special Bench will be left to the discretion of the concerned Bench.
The Bench may convene on such date or dates as it considers appropriate, taking into account the exigencies of work and the requirements for the proper adjudication of cases.
