SRINAGAR: Members of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir have recommended 935 development works worth Rs 47.64 crore under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) during the 18th Lok Sabha, of which 779 projects worth Rs 37.22 crore have been sanctioned and 254 works completed, according to data tabled in Parliament.
The figures, placed before the Lok Sabha in reply to Unstarred Question No. 500 on July 22, show that 525 projects worth Rs 31.45 crore remain under progress in Jammu and Kashmir, while expenditure under the scheme has reached Rs 14.19 crore as of July 20, 2026.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Planning, and Minister of State for Culture Rao Inderjit Singh furnished the information in a written reply to a question raised by Shri Kalyan Banerjee.
The parliamentary data also shows that Ladakh has recommended 36 works worth Rs 4 crore, of which 14 projects worth Rs 1.23 crore have been sanctioned. However, no project has been completed so far, while all 14 sanctioned works remain under execution. Expenditure in the Union Territory stands at Rs 0.60 crore.
Nationally, MPs have recommended thousands of MPLADS works across states and Union Territories during the 18th Lok Sabha. In comparison, Jammu and Kashmir has completed Rs 254 of its 779 sanctioned projects, whereas Ladakh is yet to record a single completed work under the current Lok Sabha term.
The reply stated that the figures relate to the status of works recommended, sanctioned, completed and under progress under the MPLADS as on July 20, 2026.
The minister also informed the House that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has continued publishing major statistical reports over the past five financial years, including the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES), Comprehensive Annual Modular Survey (CAMS)/Comprehensive Modular Survey (CMS) and the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI). It added that the Ministry’s Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS) sub-scheme continues to assist States and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, in strengthening statistical capacity and generating key indicators such as Gross State Domestic Product, District Domestic Product and Sustainable Development Goal indicators.
