SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday claimed to have solved two separate burglary cases with the arrest of three accused persons and the recovery of stolen gold ornaments, gold coins and cash collectively worth nearly Rs 12 lakh.
According to police, the first case pertains to FIR No. 181/2026 registered at police Station Anantnag, in which unidentified burglars had stolen gold ornaments worth around 6 lakh from a house at Rohu Monghall. During the investigation, police identified and questioned Sheraz Ahmad Goru alias Sharu, a resident of Rabtal Gund, Roshan, Ganderbal. Acting on his disclosure, police recovered five stolen gold coins valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh, which were seized as evidence. Further investigation is underway.
The second case relates to FIR No. 195/2026 registered at Police Post Dialgam following a burglary at Iqbalabad, Dialgam, during the intervening night of June 18 and 19, 2026.
Police said investigators used scientific and technical methods, including analysis of tower dump data, call detail records (CDRs) and mobile location evidence, to identify the suspects. Based on the technical leads, Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of New Colony, Frestabal, Pampore, and Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Nagbal, Zainapora, were arrested.
During questioning, the two allegedly confessed to their involvement in the burglary, leading to the recovery of stolen gold ornaments and cash worth around Rs 6 lakh, police said.
Police said further investigation in both cases is in progress, adding that Anantnag Police remains committed to solving property crimes through professional investigation and the effective use of technology.
