Jammu Kashmir Police Seize 12 Vehicles in Ganderbal, Shopian for Illegal Mining

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday seized 12 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal and south Kashmir’s Shopian districts.

In Ganderbal, police seized nine tractors in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kangan and Police Post Nagbal after they were found extracting and transporting mineral material without valid authorisation, in violation of prescribed norms. The vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines under relevant legal provisions.

In a separate action in Shopian, police seized two dumpers and a JCB machine allegedly involved in unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah. A case under FIR No. 37/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and further investigation has been initiated.

Police said the drive against illegal mining will continue and urged the public to cooperate in protecting natural resources. They added that strict action will be taken against those found involved in such unlawful activities.
