In an advisory, the police said fraudsters use social media platforms, messaging services and websites to circulate fake job offers promising high rewards for completing simple online tasks, such as liking and sharing posts, rating products and following social media accounts.

Initially, victims may receive small payments to gain their trust. The fraudsters later demand money in the name of upgrades, processing fees or access to higher-paying tasks. Once the victims make the payments, the scammers disappear, leaving them with financial losses.

The police cautioned people against offers promising unrealistically high returns for minimal effort and advised them not to share personal or banking details with unverified individuals or platforms.

It also urged people to verify the authenticity of online job offers before engaging with them and report suspicious activities without delay.

People who fall victim to cyber fraud have been advised to call the national cybercrime helpline 1930*l or register a complaint through the official portal, cybercrime.gov.in.

The police stressed the importance of verifying online offers before acting on them to avoid falling prey to cybercriminals.
