SRINAGAR: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed all telecom service providers to introduce the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service across all service areas from November 1, allowing users to see a caller’s name alongside their phone number.
Under the service, the name recorded in the originating telecom operator’s subscriber database will appear on the recipient’s phone when a call is received. The service will be made available to all users without requiring them to submit a separate request.
For incoming international calls from numbers not saved in the recipient’s contacts, the display will show “International Call”, according to the DoT.
The department said telecom service providers had already conducted trials of CNAP on wireless terrestrial networks using 4G and higher-generation technologies.
The introduction of the service on wireless networks operating on 2G and 3G technologies, as well as on public switched telephone networks, will be considered separately, it added.
