SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Adv Waqar-ul-Haq Khan, son of former lawmaker Abdul Haq Khan, as its candidate for the Lolab constituency.
A statement issued by the PDP reads, “In view of the upcoming assembly elections, the parliamentary board has named Adv Waqar-ul-Haq Khan as its candidate for the Lolab constituency.”
Former MLA from the Lolab constituency, Abdul Haq Khan, has opted out due to health issues, according to party sources.
Abdul Haq Khan rejoined the PDP on August 20, after two years of resignation from the party. He previously served as the Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Law and Justice in the PDP-BJP coalition government.
Khan distanced himself from the PDP following the fall of the state government in 2018 but rejoined the party in the presence of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, who visited his residence due to his ill health, a party leader said.
Abdul Haq Khan was elected twice to the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from Kupwara district’s Lolab constituency in 2008 and 2014.
