SRINAGAR: In a significant security upgrade, Kulgam Police have installed advanced surveillance technology—including wall radar and thermal screening systems—at Nayvug Tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The newly deployed systems can detect hidden contraband such as drugs, weapons, and other illegal materials inside vehicles.
The initiative aims to curb smuggling and prevent militancy-related activities along the strategically vital highway corridor.
A senior police official said, “The deployment of wall radar and thermal imaging technology marks a new chapter in our surveillance strategy. It will enhance our ability to monitor suspicious activity and detect threats in real time.”
He further added, “This advanced technology serves as a force multiplier in our mission to secure the region. Our goal is to ensure the safety of commuters while maintaining peace and order along the stretch.”
On this occasion, top-ranking officials, including the DIG South Kashmir Range, Commander 1 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, SSP Kulgam, and others, visited the site to oversee the operational readiness of the newly installed systems. (KNO)
