Data presented by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice in the Lok Sabha shows a marked improvement in the handling of POCSO cases in 2025 compared to earlier years.

Figures from the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) confirm that while 42 cases were registered in 2025, courts succeeded in disposing of 23. In contrast, disposal numbers in the preceding years were significantly lower: seven in 2021, ten in 2022, four in 2023 and six in 2024.

The Ministry also shared a ten-year snapshot of pending cases.

On judicial infrastructure, the Centre stated that Jammu and Kashmir currently operates four Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs), including two dedicated POCSO courts, under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. Since their establishment, these courts have resolved 338 cases, while 494 were pending as of September 30, 2025.

The Ministry added that the FTSC scheme has been extended until March 2026, with an emphasis on strengthening exclusive POCSO courts to expedite case disposal.
