The figures comprise 9,60,296 micro enterprises, 3,494 small enterprises and 225 medium enterprises, making micro enterprises overwhelmingly dominant among the registered units in the Union Territory.

The data further showed that 2,88,420 of the registered MSMEs in J&K are in the manufacturing sector, while 3,21,711 operate in the services sector and 3,53,884 are engaged in trading.

Jammu and Kashmir has 20 districts covered in the data. In terms of the size classification, micro enterprises account for almost the entire MSME registration base in the Union Territory, with small and medium enterprises forming a relatively small share.

The figures were provided by Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shobha Karandlaje in response to a Rajya Sabha question seeking year-wise and district-wise details of enterprises registered under the Udyam system during the last five financial years.

The government launched the Udyam Registration Portal on July 1, 2020, while the Udyam Assist Portal was introduced on January 11, 2023. The ministry said that as of July 31, 2026, a total of 9.16 crore MSMEs had been registered on the two portals across the country.

Across the country, the registrations included 9,11,07,705 micro enterprises, 5,40,908 small enterprises and 41,722 medium enterprises. The national data also recorded 1,83,17,965 manufacturing enterprises, 3,47,33,886 service enterprises and 3,86,38,484 trading enterprises.

The J&K figures place the Union Territory among the regions with a substantial registered MSME base. For comparison, neighbouring Himachal Pradesh had 4,03,720 registered MSMEs, comprising 4,00,655 micro, 2,841 small and 224 medium enterprises, while Punjab had 24,32,871 registrations.

The ministry said district-wise and sector-wise details of MSMEs registered during 2021-22 to 2025-26 are available separately through the Udyam Registration Portal.
