SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Maljata area of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.
The identities of the slain militants have not yet been established. Officials said arms and ammunition were recovered from the site following the operation.
The encounter followed reports of gunshots in Maljata late on Wednesday evening. Security forces subsequently cordoned off the area and launched a search operation based on specific information about the presence of militants.
A joint team of police and the Army’s Para (Special Forces) is conducting the operation, with additional personnel deployed to the area to intensify searches and ascertain whether any other militants remain there.
