SRINAGAR: A Village Defence Guard (VDG) member sustained a gunshot injury to his abdomen after his rifle went off accidentally in the Majalta area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Tuesday, officials said.
The injured man was identified as Parshotam Lal, a resident of Chore Panjian in Majalta.
Officials said Lal was injured when the rifle discharged accidentally, leaving him with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment, while his condition was not immediately known.
Police have begun an investigation into the incident and are ascertaining the circumstances that led to the accidental firing.
