SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has prohibited the feeding of birds and distribution of Tahrir or food items within the premises of all Waqf shrines across Jammu and Kashmir.
The directive has been issued under the directions of J&K Waqf Board Chairperson and Minister of State Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, with the Board asking devotees, visitors and others to strictly comply with the order.
The Board said the restrictions were aimed at maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, sanctity and a peaceful environment at the shrines.
According to the directive, feeding birds and distributing food items could attract stray animals, lead to unhygienic conditions and cause inconvenience or disturbance to devotees engaged in prayers and worship.
The Waqf Board has appealed to visitors and devotees to cooperate with its authorities and observe discipline within the shrine premises.
The Board said maintaining cleanliness and the sanctity of the shrines was a collective responsibility and urged people to respect the religious character and peaceful atmosphere of the sacred places.
