SRINAGAR: As many as 36,66,565 unorganised workers in Jammu and Kashmir had registered on the e-Shram portal as of July 28, 2026, according to data presented by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
The figures were disclosed in response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2363 on the implementation of the e-Shram portal. Ladakh recorded 36,497 registrations during the same period.
The e-Shram portal, launched on August 26, 2021, aims to create a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers, including migrant, gig and platform workers. Registered workers are issued a Universal Account Number (UAN) on a self-declaration basis.
The Ministry said more than 31.82 crore unorganised workers had registered on the portal across the country. The national database is intended to facilitate access to social security and welfare schemes through the e-Shram platform.
The Government launched the e-Shram ‘One-Stop-Solution’ on October 21, 2024, integrating different social security and welfare schemes on a single platform and enabling registered workers to access schemes and view benefits availed by them.
According to the reply, 15 Central Government schemes have been integrated or mapped with e-Shram. These include the One Nation One Ration Card, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
The portal is also linked with the National Career Service for job opportunities, Skill India Digital Hub for skill development, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan for pension and the convergence portal of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The data showed 24,48,73,025 e-Shram workers enrolled under the One Nation One Ration Card, while 15,10,06,017 were enrolled under Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY. Enrolments under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana stood at 8,53,78,568, while 6,20,69,999 were linked with the rural employment scheme VB-G RAM G.
The Ministry said Aadhaar-based eKYC authentication is mandatory for registration, with key details such as name, gender, date of birth, permanent address and photograph fetched directly from UIDAI. It said the process helps eliminate duplicate or fraudulent registrations and maintain data accuracy.
To expand coverage, particularly among migrant and rural workers and in backward districts, the Government has enabled self-registration through the web portal and mobile application, besides assisted registration through Common Service Centres, State Sewa Kendras and the UMANG platform.
The Ministry also said it was conducting registration drives, community outreach programmes and locally tailored awareness campaigns, while using social media to disseminate videos, tutorials and other information about the initiative.
