SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir recorded a peak power demand of 3,063 MW during the day in May 2026, with the entire demand met, according to data placed before the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The Union Ministry of Power said the Union Territory’s energy requirement during the month stood at 1,637 million units (MU), against 1,626 MU supplied.
During non-solar hours, J&K’s peak power demand stood at 2,816 MW, while 2,776 MW was met, leaving a gap of 40 MW.
The data showed that J&K’s daytime peak demand in May was higher than the 2,715 MW recorded in April. In April, the UT’s entire daytime and non-solar peak demand was met at 2,715 MW.
In June, J&K’s daytime peak demand declined to 2,653 MW, all of which was met. Its non-solar peak demand stood at 2,592 MW, which was also fully met. The energy requirement in June was 1,584 MU, against 1,569 MU supplied.
The figures were provided in response to a Rajya Sabha question on peak power demand during the summer of 2026. The Ministry said India had adequate power availability, with installed generation capacity reaching 548.86 GW as of June 2026.
