SRINAGAR: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district have arrested the main accused and recovered the alleged weapon of offence within hours of a firing incident that claimed a man’s life in Jakh area of Vijaypur.
The case was registered at Police Station Vijaypur under FIR No. 163/2026 under Sections 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 3/27 of the Arms Act.
Police said information about the firing incident near the Power House at Jakh was received at around 5.40 pm on October 5, following which a police team immediately reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
The victim, Atish Sharma, alias Attu, son of Omkar Nath and a resident of Jakh, Tehsil Vijaypur, sustained firearm injuries and died at the scene.
During the investigation, police identified Nikhil Sharma, son of Bawa Ditta and a resident of Jakh Bagla Rajinderpura, Tehsil Vijaypur, as the alleged assailant. Police said the firing followed a land dispute.
Nikhil Sharma was arrested by the Vijaypur police team within hours of the incident. During questioning, police said, he disclosed his alleged involvement in the offence.
Acting on the disclosure, police recovered the pistol allegedly used in the crime in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and seized it in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Further investigation is underway to establish the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the case.
