SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) announced on Saturday that it has arrested a resident of Jammu for allegedly bribing a police officer.
According to a statement issued, the ACB reported that Chander Shekhar Vohra, also known as Sanjay Vohra, son of Late Madan Mohan Vohra, residing at 221, City Palace, Kachi Chowani, Jammu, has been arrested in connection with FIR number 01/2024 under section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, registered at Police Station Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu.
“The instant case was registered upon receipt of a complaint from the complainant, Superintendent of Police City South, Jammu. The complainant stated that on 13.01.2024 while performing her duties in her office at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, the accused sent in a slip seeking an appointment. Upon entering the office chamber of Superintendent of Police City, South Jammu, the accused presented a gift box along with a yellow envelope containing cash to bribe the complainant for seeking an undue favour, i.e. an extension of time for an Exhibition cum sale at Gole Market, Jammu, beyond the originally permitted period,” the statement said.
“Immediately after the registration of the case, the investigation was entrusted to the Investigating Officer of PS ACB Jammu. During the investigation, the Investigating Officer recovered and seized a gift pack of sweets and an envelope containing cash amounting to Rs 30,000 through separate seizure memos and also arrested the accused Chander Shekhar Vohra alias Sanjay Vohra,” it added.
Further investigation of the case is in progress, the statement said. (KNO)
