Jammu Shootout: Accused Arrested, Weapon Recovered Within Six Hours, Says Police

   

SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday said that they arrested the accused and recovered the weapon within six hours following a shootout in the New Plot area of Jammu district, linked to a parking dispute.

In a handout, a police spokesperson said, ”   On January 3, an incident was reported at Police Station Bakshi Nagar regarding a shootout in the New Plot area over a parking issue. Advocate Kanav Sharma was parking his vehicle on a street outside the PDD lineman’s room when he was confronted by a PDD employee, Ravinder Singh, leading to an altercation.”

The police spokesman further said that during the argument, a scuffle broke out between the two. Ravinder Singh took out his licensed pistol and fired two rounds at Advocate Kanav Sharma. Kanav Sharma was immediately taken to Sarwal Hospital for first aid and later referred to GMC for further treatment. Meanwhile, Ravinder Singh fled the scene.

Upon receiving information, Jammu Police promptly secured the crime scene and called in FSL teams and crime photographers. “A manhunt for the accused, Ravinder Singh (alias Kaka), was launched immediately. Using a combination of technical and human intelligence, the police successfully apprehended the accused and recovered the weapon used in the crime.”

It is pertinent to mention that Ravinder Singh is a permanent government employee currently posted at Parade, Jammu, and was on duty in the New Plot area at the time of the incident.

A case under FIR No. 01/2025 has been registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar under Section 109 BNS, and investigations are ongoing.  (GNS)
