SRINAGAR: Vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remained completely suspended on Friday after the district administrations of Udhampur and Ramban ordered a temporary closure to facilitate restoration and stabilisation works at vulnerable locations.
According to the authorities, the closure was imposed to enable intensive road restoration, debris clearance and slope stabilisation works at Gangroo and Kishtwari Pathar in Ramban district, and Samroli and Ladha in Udhampur district.
Officials said the temporary suspension of traffic was necessary to ensure public safety and allow the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to carry out critical repair works required for the safe reopening of the highway.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is the principal road link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country and has witnessed repeated disruptions in recent days due to adverse weather and landslides. Authorities have advised commuters to follow official traffic advisories before planning their journeys.
