SRINAGAR: Jammu is set to add 75 new 7-metre, air-conditioned Smart Electric Buses to its public transport network under the PM-eBus Sewa programme, further expanding the electric fleet operated through Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL).
The bidding process for the Jammu and Kashmir lot has been completed, with M/s PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Private Limited emerging as the lowest bidder (L-1), according to the administration. Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) has communicated the outcome to the Jammu and Kashmir government, with the formal award of the contract expected to follow.
The proposed buses will be standard-floor, 7-metre vehicles equipped with air-conditioning. They are intended to increase public transport capacity while providing a cleaner and more comfortable mode of travel.
Jammu currently has 100 Smart Electric Buses operating through JSCL, comprising 25 buses measuring 12 metres and 75 buses measuring 9 metres.
The fleet is also due to expand with 25 additional 12-metre Smart Electric Buses. The contract for these vehicles was signed in August 2026 and manufacturing is currently under way.
With the latest procurement, Jammu is moving towards an electric bus fleet comprising 7-metre, 9-metre and 12-metre vehicles, allowing different bus sizes to be deployed according to route requirements.
The smaller buses are expected to be suited to routes passing through congested parts of the city, while the air-conditioned interiors are intended to improve passenger comfort, particularly during Jammu’s hot weather.
Under the proposed arrangement, the selected operator will be responsible for providing and maintaining the buses and operating them on designated city routes.
JSCL Chief Executive Officer Devansh Yadav said the expansion would strengthen public transport in Jammu.
“Jammu is moving towards a cleaner, smarter and more passenger-friendly public transport system. The addition of 75 new 7-metre AC Smart Electric Buses will further strengthen the JSCL fleet and provide people with cleaner, reliable and comfortable mobility,” Dr Yadav said.
The 75 vehicles form part of Lot-16 under PM-eBus Sewa Tender-3 and have been allocated specifically to Jammu.
The administration will now undertake the remaining contractual formalities, including issuance of the Letter of Award and signing of the agreement with the selected operator. Deployment of the buses will follow completion of these procedures.
With 100 electric buses already operating, 25 more under manufacture and 75 additional buses moving towards deployment, Jammu’s electric public transport fleet is set for a substantial expansion.
