According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday near the Tawi Bridge area, where the woman is believed to have poured an inflammable substance over herself before setting herself ablaze during a moment of distress.

Eyewitnesses reportedly rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the flames before police shifted her to hospital for treatment, as per The Tribune report.

Police officials stated that the woman has sustained approximately 80 per cent burn injuries and remains under medical care.

A senior police officer, quoted by The Earth News, said preliminary findings suggest that a strained personal relationship may have been a contributing factor to the incident.

The officer further informed that the woman’s statement was recorded in hospital on Thursday night in the presence of a magistrate. As per her statement, she had not been in contact with her boyfriend for the past two to three days due to his failure to respond to her calls. She reportedly told investigators that she had no intention of ending her life and acted in a moment of anger, according to The Earth News.

Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the matter.
