SRINAGAR: Senior RSS leader and retired Brigader Suchet Singh breathed his last on Thursday after a prolonged illness in Jammu. He was 79.

According to reports, he is survived by his wife Sarita Singh and three daughters. Soon after hearing the news of his death people from all walks of life visited his residence including RSS and BJP leaders. He was cremated with military honours on Friday.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh has expressed his profound shock and grief over demise.

Taking to a social networking site, Twitter DR Singh wrote: “Deeply saddened by the demise of Brig(Retd) Suchet Singh, RSS veteran from #JammuAndKashmir who was a lifelong inspiration for many of us. Had the privilege of closely working under him in Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti. I share my grief with the family & the Vichar Parivar. RIP🙏🏻.”

Many RSS and BJP leaders and civil society members attended the last rites.

After retiring from the Army on July 31, 1997, he also served as the Director of the Sainik Welfare Board, Jammu and Kashmir. He was earlier the National Vice President of the Ex-Servicemen Service Council.
