In connection with celebrations of 68th Republic-Day, functions were held across the Kashmir valley with great enthusiasm and fervour on Thursday.

The main function was held at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar where Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan unfurled the national flag and took salute at the march past presented by the contingents of JK Police, JKAP, ITBP, BSF, CRPF,  Ladies Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Protection Force, NCC cadets and students.

Among others, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, SJM Gillani, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, IGP IRP, Sunil Kumar, senior officers of civil administration, Police and Paramilitary Forces besides large gathering of people attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted various developmental works undertaken in Kashmir division. He said divisional administration is making all out efforts to provide better civic facilities to the people, besides ensuring efficient public delivery system across the valley. He said various initiatives have been taken to make administration accountable, transparent and time bound so that people do not face any difficulty.

The Div Com also highlighted various welfare schemes launched by the government including Laadli Beti, Hunar, CM’s Scooty Scheme and appealed people to take maximum benefit from such schemes He said government launched Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme which has covered all consumers under food security.

On the occasion, different cultural programmes jointly organized by Departments of Information, Education, Youth Services and Sports and Academy of Cultural, Art and Languages were presented.

Div Com on the occasion while commending the participants announced that an amount of Rs 10,000 shall be given to each of the participating schools.

Similarly, Republic day celebration functions were held in other parts of the valley.

At Pulwama, Republic Day was celebrated at District headquarters, Pulwama with great fervour and enthusiasm. Deputy Commissioner, Muneer ul-Islam was the chief guest who unfurled National flag and took salute at the march past. Contingents of JKP, JKAP, IRP, CRPF, Fire and Emergency and School children participated in the march past.

SSP Pulwama and other officers of Police and Civil administration were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of Republic Day and threw light on the various developmental activities undergoing in the district and the role played by civil administration and police. He also appealed people of the district to extend their cooperation in making the district a Model district.

Various colourful and mesmerizing cultural programmes were presented by the students of different educational institutions besides artists of Information, Education and Youth Services & Sports.

The students of various government schools who passed class 12th examination with outstanding merit were also felicitated on the occasion.

Republic Day celebrations were also held at Sub-Divisions and Tehsil headquarters where concerned SDM and Tehsildar hoisted the national flag, and took salute at the March-Past.

At Shopian, the Republic-day was celebrated at Fruit Mandi Shopian with fervour and patriotic atmosphere.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri hoisted the tricolour and took salute at the march past  presented by the contingents of CRPF, JKP JKAP, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Protection Force, volunteers of Home Guard and that of students  of different schools.

Addressing the function, the DC said that Republic day is the most significant day in the history of India as on this day in 1950 our country adopted the world largest written constitution. He further added that after attaining freedom and adoption of the constitution, the country made strides in various sectors particularly education, science, agriculture, health, power and other fields.

Later, school students amused the audience with cultural items portraying the cultural diversity of the district.

Among others, ADC, SSP, senior officers of civil administration and police Department, besides senior citizens attended the function.

At Budgam, the Republic Day function was held at District Sports Stadium, where District Development Commissioner, Mir Altaf Ahmed hoisted the national flag and took salute at the march past presented by contingents of JKP, JKAP, CRPF, Home Guards, NCC and students.

In his address, the DDC paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their life in securing democracy for the nation. He stressed upon the parents to ensure that their children receive quality education which is essential to safeguard their future. He also highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the government.

Scintillating cultural programmes including traditional folk songs were presented by school children on the occasion.

Among others, SSP, District/Sectoral Officers and Principals of Government and Private schools, large number of students, civil society members and citizens attended the function.

At Ganderbal, Deputy Commissioner, Tariq Hussain Ganai unfurled the National flag at Mader-e-Meharban Stadium, and took salute at the march past presented by the contingents of JKP, JKAP, SPOs, Police Training School Manigam, and School children participated in the march past.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that Constitution of the country ensures for maintaining peace, amity and brotherhood in the State. He reiterated that efforts have been made to improve the socio-economic status of the people by implementing various welfare and developmental schemes.

On the occasion, cultural items were presented by students of various schools.

Among others, officers of Police and Civil administration were present on the occasion.

At Baramulla, a grand function to celebrate Republic day was held at District Police Headquarters Baramulla, with Deputy Commissioner, Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash as the Chief Guest, who hoisted the tricolour and took salute at march past presented by the contingents of District Police, CRPF,SSB, Fire and Emergency Service and the School children.

Highlighting the importance of Republic day, Dr Naqash threw light on the various aspects of the developmental initiatives and stressed for promoting national integration, communal harmony and peace,

On the occasion, a special bangda was organized by army contingents besides other cultural programmes by the school students.

Meanwhile, functions in connection with the Republic day were also held at Sub-Divisional and Tehsil levels where the concerned SDMs and Tehsildars hoisted the national flag.

At Kupwara, the 68thRepublic day function was held at District Police Lines Kupwara, wherein District Development Commissioner, Ghulam Mohammad Dar hoisted the Tricolour inspected the parade and took salute at march past presented by JKP,J KAP, CRPF, Home Guard , Fire and emergency Services and Police Band contingent’s beside school students.

Speaking in the occasion the DDC highlights various achievements carried by the district administration under the close supervision of the present government instructions he promised to people of Kupwara district. On this occasion several cultural colourful programmes were present.

Similarly, R-Day functions were also held at Handwara and Karnah wherein the Tehsil Heads Additional Deputy Commissioner, Handwara and Sub Divisional Magistrate Karnah hoisted the tricolour and took salute at the march past.

At Bandipora,  the Republic day was celebrated at SK Sports Stadium, where Deputy Commissioner, Sajad Hussain inspected the parade and took salute on the march past presented by the contingents of JKP, JKAP, IRP, CRPF, NCC and the school children.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the DC highlighted the importance of the Day. He also presented the detailed report on developmental front.

Among others, SSP ADC, ACR, and Officers from civil administration, police, army, besides senior citizens were present on the occasion.

At Islamabad, the Deputy Commissioner, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah hoisted the national flag and took salute at the parade presented by the contingents of JKP, IRP, CRPF, Ladies Police, Auxiliary Police, District Police Band, Fire & Emergency Services, NCC  and school children.

On the occasion, colourful cultural programmes were presented by Information Department and Education Department. In addition, a martial art performance was also presented on the occasion.

The Deputy Commissioner, in his Republic day speech, gave a description of the performances and developmental achievements made in the district. He highlighted the performance of various essential service departments in providing public services to the people.

The function was among others attended by prominent political leaders, DIG South Kashmir, SSP, COs of RR and CRPF, ADDC, besides, members of civil society.

Similar functions were also organized at Sub-Divisions of Pahalgam, Kokernag and Dooru and Tehsil headquarters of the district where concerned SDMs and Tehsildars hoisted the national flag and took salute at the parade.

At Kulgam, the Republic day function was held at District Police Lines Kulgam where Deputy Commissioner, Showkat Aijaz Bhat unfurled the national flag and took salute at the parade.

Among others present on the occasion were SSP Kulgam, ADC, ACR and other district officers.
