Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday imposed restrictions in parts of Downtown Srinagar to prevent protests against the US move to declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The call for protests was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday.

The leadership in a statement on Thursday said: “Kashmiris are and will continue protesting against this horrible US decision and will stage peaceful protests across the valley on December 8, after Friday prayers.”

The restrictions have been imposed in Nowhatta, MR Gunj and Safa Kadal areas in Downtown Srinagar, reports said.

Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has been placed house arrest while Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house arrest since 2010.

Police have deployed heavy contingents of forces in the three police station areas.
