Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained dozens of resistance leaders and activists ahead of the protests against the US President Donald Trump’s decision of announcing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

While octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house arrest since 2010, government authorities placed Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention at his Nigeen residence last evening.

The Police have also detained Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) general secretary Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai at his Baghat residence, sources said.

Many Hurriyat Conference led by Geelani, activists including Muhammad Yaseen Attai, Syed Imtiyaz Hyder and Mohammad Yousuf Bhat were arrested late last night and lodged at Police Station Budgam, sources said.

The call for protests has been given by the Joint Resistance leaders, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

Meanwhile, sources said that the mother of senior resistance leader Bashir Ahmad Bhat has passed away.
