SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday registered a case against the former Sarpanch of Dhanore Gorsian, Rajouri, and the former Block Development Council (BDC) Chairman of Block Rajouri on corruption charges.
“ACB has registered a case against Darbar Chowdhary, former Sarpanch of Dhanore Gorsian and former BDC Chairman of Block Rajouri, son of the late Gulzar Ali, resident of Dhanore Gorsian, Rajouri. The case has been registered under FIR No. 01/2025, under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018),” ACB spokesperson said in a statement..
“The case was registered following a secret verification conducted by ACB Rajouri into allegations of accumulation of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by the accused. The verification revealed that the accused had served as the elected Sarpanch of Panchayat Dhanore Gorsian, Rajouri, in 2011 and as the elected Block Development Council Chairman of Block Rajouri from 2019 to 2023,” the statement reads.
“During this period, he accumulated various movable and immovable assets worth crores in his name as well as in the names of his family members. These assets include multiple well-furnished houses, several plots of land, shops, luxury vehicles, and other properties.”
In this manner, the accused, Darbar Chowdhary, former Sarpanch of Dhanore Gorsian and former BDC Chairman of Block Rajouri, is alleged to have enriched himself illicitly by engaging in corrupt practices and acquiring assets that are prima facie disproportionate to his known sources of income, the statement added.
“After registering the case under relevant sections of law, the ACB, with the assistance of local police and in the presence of Magistrates and independent witnesses, conducted simultaneous searches at the premises of the accused,” the spokesperson said, adding that a detailed and in-depth scrutiny of the seized records will be carried out during the further course of investigation.
