Some unidentified persons, believed to be the buglers, during the intervening night of November 22-23, barraged inside the J&K Bank’s Sarthal branch and looted approximately Rs. 40 lakh cash, along with new denomination currency notes of Rs 20 Lakhs.

As per the details available with Kashmir life, the bank was located inside a private shop at Agral village of Sarthal, about 30 KM from Kishtwar. “Some unidentified person broke the shutters of the bank and looted the cash kept inside the chest,” said a local source in the area.

A Police official while confirming the incident informed Kashmir Life that police party led by SHO police station Kishtwar, Sameer Jeelani is on spot. He said that approximately Rs 20 Lakh cash was looted from the bank.

Pertinently, this was the second major bank robbery in Kishtwar district, after the infamous 1.0648 crore robbery that took place in 2008 at J&K Bank’s Kishtwar branch. Although police claims to have solved the said case, but they have failed to recover the full cash. Only Rs 55 lakhs have been recovered till date.
