Congress leader Jahanzaib Sirwal joined the BJP in New Delhi and criticised the Congress for its “party vanishing machine” approach and borrowing agenda-based politics from other parties on April 11 2024.

He lauded the government’s efforts in presenting a “new image” of Kashmir, commending its role in curbing unrest and promoting development in the region.

His defection is viewed as a setback for the Congress, particularly in Kishtwar district, under the Udhampur-Kathua Lok Sabha constituency, reported the Indian Express.

This constituency, slated for polls on April 19, witnesses a fierce battle between the BJP’s incumbent MP, Jitendra Singh, and Congress’s Choudhary Lal Singh, both seasoned politicians with previous terms in office.
