SRINAGAR: Police in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir arrested a government teacher on Sunday, responding to allegations of sexual abuse and harassment.

The police took action following a written complaint submitted by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Rajouri, prompted by complaints from female students.

According to a police statement, the accused, Ashraf Qureshi, currently serves as a government teacher at Government Higher Secondary School Saaj in the Thanamandi sub-division of Rajouri district.

The police have registered a case, FIR number 129/2023, under section 8/22 of the POCSO Act at the Thanamandi police station. This action was taken after multiple female students from the same school lodged complaints, alleging sexual abuse and harassment by the teacher.

Legal proceedings are now underway, and the case is currently under investigation.
