SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir Police, on Sunday announced the apprehension of two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

As per an official statement, this development unfolded on September 3, 2023. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint checkpoint operation was established at Shirkwara near the Bus Stop Shirkwara, involving the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kreeri and 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).

“During the checkpoint inspection, the team noticed two individuals approaching on foot from the direction of Wagoora Bridge. Upon sighting the police party and security forces, the suspects attempted to flee the scene, but the vigilant checkpoint personnel tactfully apprehended them,” the police reported.

During the preliminary interrogation, the individuals identified themselves as Tawseef Ramazan Bhat, the son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat, and Moien Amin Bhat, also known as Momin, the son of Mohammad Amin Bhat. Both are residents of Bada Mulla, Sheeri Baramulla.

“Upon searching Moien Amin Bhat, a Chinese Pistol with a magazine and 15 rounds were recovered, while a hand grenade was discovered on Tawseef Ramazan Bhat. Both individuals are confirmed OGWs affiliated with LeT,” stated the police.

Further investigations revealed that they maintained continuous contact with LeT handlers and shared critical information with Pakistani militant handlers. The police also added that they were on the verge of becoming active militants, planning to carry out attacks on security forces and targeted killings.

In light of these developments, the police have registered a case under FIR number 111/2023, encompassing sections 7/25 of the Indian Arms Act, as well as sections 13, 18, 20, 23, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)). An investigation into the matter has been initiated.
