In reply to an RTI application filed by Deepak Sharma, the General Administration Department of the state government has said that it has no record available to say who is ‘Sher-e-Kashmir’ in the State of J&K.

Sharma, a well known Jammu based RTI activist, had filed an RTI with the PIO of Governor’s Secretariat seeking information regarding the title of ‘Sher –e-Kashmir ’.

The RTI sought information asking if the title of ‘Sher-e-Kashmir’ was conferred upon by the government to any person in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

The PIO, Raj Bhawan, transferred the RTI application to the PIO General Administration Department, who vide his reply No. GAD/RTI(Adm.)/1553/2015 informed Sharma that there is no information available on the records of the General Administration Department to the query asked by the applicant.

Interestingly, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the founder of National Conference is fondly known as Sher-e-Kashmir. Post 1975 most of the infrastructure in the state has been named after the NC founder. The most important ones are Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura, Sher-e-Kashmir Municipal Park, Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium.
