JK Govt to Involve Youth in Green Initiatives, Says Satish Sharma

   

SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, on Saturday launched a plantation drive in Hiranagar, Kathua, in collaboration with the Forest Department.

The drive saw participation from students, youth volunteers, government officials, environmentalists and local residents. MLA Hiranagar and other local dignitaries were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Sharma underlined the need for sustained afforestation efforts in ecologically sensitive regions like Hiranagar. He said afforestation and public involvement are essential to counter deforestation, soil erosion and water scarcity.

He said that the government departments under his charge will promote environmental awareness through programmes such as eco-clubs, nature camps and green volunteering.

Sharma called for regular seasonal plantation drives and appreciated the Forest Department and local administration for organising the event.

MLA Hiranagar pledged support for ongoing and future ecological initiatives. Senior officers from the Forest Department, SDM Hiranagar, RTO Kathua and the District Youth Services and Sports Officer were also in attendance.
