The Jammu and Kashmir government has sought Rs 84 crores from the government of India under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) to boost development of the state’s backward districts

Ali Mohammad Sagar, the minister for rural development and Panchayat Raj, said, “A plan of Rs 84 crores from the current year’s plan has been sent to the centre for allocation.”

The plan has already been approved by the State Empowered Committee under the programme recently.

As per reports the state government has decided to send a proposal of Rs 55 crores under the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Abhiyan (RGPSA) to the GoI for release of funds for capacity building of Panchayat representatives which may help in further strengthening of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state.
