JAMMU: Nearly half a million kanals of lands are under the occupation of various security forces, details tabled in the House by the state government said. Interestingly, the most peaceful region of the state, the Ladakh belt, has most of the land occupied, illegally. Kishtwar, interestingly has emerged as the only district where there is no occupation of land by any security agency without authorisation.

 

 

The total land occupied by various agencies in Jammu region is 51116 kanals and 12 murals. In Kashmir, including Ladakh, this figure is at 379817 kanals, the state home ministry revealed in response to the question of lawmaker Sheikh Ishfaq Jabar.

Outside Ladakh region that reports the most land occupation, Baramulla top the list with 34598 kanas of land. It is followed by Budgam with 33478 kanals of land. Kupwara has 12115 kanals of land under occupation, the details revealed.

The information suggests that south Kashmir Anantnag has 7829 canals under various security agencies, Bandipore has 5782.5 kanals, Ganderbal has 2172.17 kanals, Pulwama has 15276.4 kanals, Shopian has 4803.15 kanals and Srinagar has 4951 kanals.

Interestingly, Kargil has 114859.13 kanals with various security agencies and Leh has 143949 kanals.

In Jammu region, the capital Jammu city top the list where 36620 kanals are with various security agencies. Udhampur has only 162 kanals, Samba has 3862 Kanals, Kathua has 388 Kanals, Reasi has 684 kanals, Ramban has 62 kanals, Doda has 19.13 kanals, Rajouri has 1697 kanals, and Poonch has 7617 kanals with various security agencies without any authorisation.

Kishtwar interestingly is the only one of the 22 districts across J&K that has not a single kanal of land under unauthorised occupation of the security agencies. I Jammu, most of the land is with the army – 42337 kanals.
