The electorate in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 72 lakh, an increase of 2.7 per cent from since the month of April this year when Lok Sabha elections were held.

According to official data there has been increase in electorate from nearly 70 lakh to over 72 lakh.

2,34,162 new voters have registered themselves taking the total registered voters to 7,225,559 from 6,991,397 since the last Lok Sabha polls were held.

According to data Kashmir valley has registered an increase of 1,53,423 voters from the Lok Sabha poll electorate of 35,99,772 to 37,53,195 voters for the coming Assembly polls.

In Jammu there has been an increase of 81,698 voters from 32,29,740 electorate in Lok Sabha polls to 33,11,438 voters. However, Ladakh region has shown a decline of 3,959 voters from 1,64,885 voters in Lok Sabha polls to 1,60,926.

There was an electorate of 61,65,108 registered in 2002 Assembly elections in the state followed by 64,61,757 voters in 2008 and 69,94,284 during this year’s Parliamentary polls.

Five phases of the state polling in the state are scheduled to start from November 25. The next dates are December 2, 9, 14 and 20.

10,005 polling stations have been set up in the state.

Kashmir valley has the highest number of 46 Assembly constituencies followed by Jammu with 37 seats and 4 in Ladakh.
