KL Report

JAMMU

The proceedings of Legislative Assembly were adjourned on Tuesday, after the entire opposition created ruckus in the house against what they called “selective approach” of the government regarding the permission of using Lal Bati.

The state cabinet which met in Jammu, a day before had authorized the Governor, Ex-Governors, Chief Minister, Former Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker LA, Chairman LC, Leader of the opposition in LA and LC and judges of the high court and police Chief to use beacon lights on their vehicles.

Today, the MLAs of all the parties raised the issue in the LA and asked the government to elaborate the criteria on which it had authorized selective dignitaries to use beacon lights on their vehicles.

The members of entire opposition and some MLAs of the ruling NC like SS Salathia and Ajaz Jan called the cabinet decision as ‘violation’ of the supreme court direction and demanded all the dignitaries including MLAs should be allowed to use beacon lights on their vehicles and there should be no discrimination.

The speaker assured them that their demand will be looked into but they were not convinced. Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather on the occasion also tried to silent the protesting members but the entire opposition walked out and staged a sit in on the Assembly gat. Later Nasir Aslam Wani, came to the protesting members and took them to the house where Abdul Rahim Rather again tried to defend the cabinet decision saying the union government has authorized its cabinet secretary to use the beacon light so has the state government authorized its Chief Secretary, so it was not any violation of the SC direction.

After the house was resumed the speaker assured the protesting members that their demand will be given a thought after which they were satisfied.
