SRINAGAR: In a commitment to eliminate drugs from society, the Jammu Kashmir Police, in collaboration with the Revenue Department, executed two operations that reinforced their stance against drug-related activities.

In the first operation, the police received intelligence about the presence of wild cannabis in the Gingal Uri area of District Baramulla. Responding to the information, a police unit, led by SHO PS Uri and supported by the Revenue department and PRIs, operated under the oversight of SDPO Uri, Shokat Ali-JKPS. The team reached the location and conducted an operation that resulted in the eradication of wild cannabis, covering approximately 1.5 kanals of land.

In a parallel operation, the Jammu Kashmir Police achieved a breakthrough in Kulgam by apprehending a drug peddler and seizing contraband substances from his possession.

At a checkpoint along the Gassipora road near Alstop, a police team, led by the Incharge of Police Post Mirbazar, intercepted and arrested a drug peddler identified as Imtiaz Ahmad Dar, the son of Ghulam Hassan Dar and a resident of Gassipora, Laram. During a search, the officers discovered 11 kilograms of poppy straw concealed within a nylon bag in his custody. The suspect, Imtiaz Ahmad Dar, was subsequently transferred to the local police station, where he remains in custody.

An investigation has been initiated in connection with the incident, and a case under FIR No. 172/2023, encompassing sections of the law, has been registered at the Qazigund Police Station. The local community has been encouraged to proactively share information about drug peddling activities occurring in their vicinity.
