SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has issued a public appeal, urging individuals to exercise vigilance against the unauthorised sharing of photographs with the DGP and other senior officers on social media platforms.

A spokesperson, in a statement, highlighted the concerning trend where individuals post images with senior police officials without their consent, often taken during social or cultural events.

This behaviour, deemed both discourteous and illegal, may escalate to criminality if these images are misused to intimidate or influence others for personal gain, such as extorting money or falsely promising governmental benefits by leveraging association with authority figures. The JK Police stresses the importance of reporting and exposing such actions by the public.

“It is outright criminal and punishable, if the photo is being used and leveraged to intimidate or influence others to extort or part with money or promise governmental benefits by brandishing the photo as a connection to authority,” it reads.

Citizens, including community members, students, workers, and residents, are encouraged not to fear repercussions from these unscrupulous individuals. The police affirm their commitment to taking appropriate action against anyone found misusing photographs with senior officers for unlawful purposes.

In light of these incidents, it is imperative for everyone to exercise caution and uphPolicold ethical standards when sharing photos on social media platforms. The police underscore the need for responsible conduct in this regard to maintain integrity and prevent potential harm.
