SRINAGAR: In an effort to revive the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir, stakeholders in collaboration with the Tourism Department are set to organise a four-day ‘Fame Tour’. National tour operators, senior hoteliers, and members of the national media have been invited as part of a broader confidence-building measure.
Tariq Ghani, General Secretary of the JK Hoteliers Club, said the event will begin on May 27 and conclude on May 30.
“After arriving at Srinagar Airport on May 27, the delegation will travel to Pahalgam, where they will meet hoteliers, ponywalas, locals, and others to assess the ground situation,” he said.
Ghani added that the delegation will visit four major destinations: Pahalgam, Srinagar, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also been invited to interact with the national tour operators and media representatives.
During the tour, tourism stakeholders from across Jammu and Kashmir, including hoteliers, houseboat owners, tour operators, and transporters will also extend a welcome to the devotees of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025.
“The delegation will be encouraged to share their suggestions during the event, which will be held under the chairmanship of JK Hoteliers Club head Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya,” Ghani said. “We will be offering a 50 per cent discount on packages to help protect the livelihoods of around three lakh people employed in the tourism sector who have been affected by the recent slump.”
Tourism activity in the region saw a sharp decline following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead. The incident resulted in the cancellation of nearly 90 per cent of bookings, severely impacting the ongoing season. (KNO)
