SRINAGAR: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo on Thursday directed the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to issue the datesheet for classes 10 and 12 well in time to enable students to prepare for their examinations.
Chairing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review the performance and functioning of JKBOSE, Itoo emphasised that timely conduct of examinations and effective grievance redressal mechanisms should be prioritised.
The meeting was attended by Chairman JKBOSE and Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Shantamanu; Secretary School Education Ram Niwas Sharma; Director School Education Kashmir Dr GN Itoo; Director School Education Jammu Naseem Javid Chowdhary; Secretary JKBOSE Ghulam Hassan Sheikh; and other senior officials from JKBOSE and the School Education Department.
The minister stressed that curriculum updates must be completed before the start of the new academic session and directed JKBOSE to ensure that textbooks are made available by the end of November. She also called for a proper mechanism to be devised for dispatching textbooks to schools to avoid supply bottlenecks.
Itoo appreciated the Board’s student-centric initiatives aimed at easing registration and examination processes but insisted that evaluation systems be improved to ensure timely declaration of results. She also underscored the importance of accountability, infrastructure upgradation, staff capacity-building, and closer coordination with schools to address examination-related challenges.
“Education is the foundation of our future. The role of JKBOSE is pivotal in shaping a transparent, modern, student-friendly examination and evaluation system. Our priority is to strengthen institutions so that every child in Jammu and Kashmir can benefit from quality education,” Itoo said.
During the meeting, the Secretary JKBOSE presented a detailed action plan for upcoming examinations and reforms within the Board.
