Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) has been awarded as the second best organization in the entrepreneurial and self-employment space in India.

This makes the institute the first in the state to win the award by India’s leading industry lobby, Assocham.Director JKEDI, Dr. M. I. Parray   receiving the  award

Director JKEDI MI Parray received the silver award in the category of “Best Organisation Encouraging Entrepreneurship in MSME” at an event in Delhi’s Le-Meridien hotel which was attended by who’s who of Indian business community.

“It is a great honour for our institute to receive the award,” Director JKEDI MI Parray said, describing milestones the institute has achieved since its inception.

The director recalled and offered special gratitude to the state government for its “whole hog support to JKEDI in its endeavour to battle the monster of unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir”.

The institute has so far provided entrepreneurship development training to more than 10,000 candidates and has provided financial and other business support to more than 3,700 entrepreneurs to help them establish their start-ups.

Almost 90 percent of JKEDI sponsored units are running successfully and many of them are in the advanced stage of their business cycle.

JKEDI is a Jammu and Kashmir government organization. Over the years of its establishment, the institute has carved a niche for itself in the entrepreneurship development arena of the country.

Besides complete business development training, JKEDI offers monetary assistance under various central and state government-sponsored financial schemes.

The institute has worked out a five pronged approach in its holistic approach of developing an entrepreneurial culture in the state beset with gigantic problem of unemployment. This involves complete handholding to its candidates till the establishment of their units through training, finances, and other non finance support in terms of business development.

The institute has 22 offices in all the districts of the state, besides two main offices in Kashmir and Jammu regions.

“The award is an overall recognition of our efforts. It has raised the level of expectation our stakeholders have with us. We cannot afford to lose our focus,” said the director, congratulating his staff for winning the award.

Pertinently, Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED) based in Chandigarh won the first award as the best entrepreneurship development organization in India, according to the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) that had organized the event.

Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, was given the best private organization award for its initiatives in providing in-house training for skilling workers.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya presented the awards at the event of India’s lead apex trade associations. The event “Realigning Skilling towards Make in India” focused on skill development and entrepreneurship in the country.

The awards instituted by ‘Assocham’ were sponsored by various government of India ministries including ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, ministry of micro small and medium enterprises, ministry of food processing industry and the National Skill Development Agency.

In all there were 15 award categories in recognition of innovative efforts to blend skill and knowledge for the overall economic growth and social development of the country.

The government of India has already launched campaign with an aim to turn the country into a global manufacturing hub.

The event was held to “discuss current scenario on skill development and catalyze the initiative by recognizing the outstanding work of private sector and industry participation in skill development”, according to the trade body.

The panel of jury included eminent personalities from various ministries, government department funding agencies, consulting firms, corporate houses and NGOs.
